CJSC Evrotek was founded in Kiev in 1995. It delivered fuel to agricultural producers and traded in grain and sunflower seeds.
Over 1998-2000, during the period of privatization, the company acquired controlling stakes in several manufacturing enterprises. Today their assets form the basis of Evrotek’s production facilities.
Since 2000, Evrotek has been the holding company at the head of a group of businesses comprising two oil-extraction plants and thirteen enterprises for grain processing and storage. The Group’s procurement and storage complex includes silos based in the Kharkov oblast and provides acceptance, storage, purification, assorting and desiccation of sunflower seeds, grain and other crops. The total storage capacity is 618,000 tons of grain crops. The Group has an annual processing capacity of over 300,000 tons representing approximately 8% of Ukraine’s total sunflower seed processing.
At the end of 2003, Evrotek started restructuring its business process to move away from grain trade and crude sunflower oil production towards high-quality purification, refining, PET- packaging of vegetable oil and its subsequent distribution to the end user, thus creating a complete, closed loop production and sales cycle. In 2003, refining facilities at the Prikolotnyansky Oil Extraction Plant were refurbished and a PET packaging shop was built. The most modern refining complex in Ukraine, and one of the best in Europe and the CIS, was built at the plant. The core of the complex is equipment supplied by Alfa Laval (Sweden), a leader in developing and implementing such equipment.
The complex allows the company to refine virtually all of the most widely used vegetable oils such as those made from sunflower, rapeseed, soybean and corn. Refining is the process of deep purification of vegetable oil, which determines the qualitative characteristics of the final product. For this reason Evrotek has devoted special attention to refining. The sophisticated refining system, based on Soft Column technology, used at Evrotek’s plants allows us to produce carcinogen-free (heavy PAH-free) refined vegetable oil. This has been confirmed by a number of expert analyses carried out by European laboratories.
The Stozhar trademark was created and registered specifically for the new product. In the two years since its release, Stozhar has gained a 13% market share (January-February 2005, according to the GfK). This fact is the best proof of the success of our product positioning concept and marketing policy, which includes effective advertising and promotional activities. In order to provide better sales support for Stozhar, Evrotek created a special purpose sales team and set a loop distributive network that covers the whole of Ukraine as well as partners’ networks in Russia and other countries.
Today Evrotek is a producer of the following goods and services:
• Stozhar refined vegetable (sunflower, rapeseed and soybean) oil in PET bottles;
• unrefined and refined sunflower oil delivered in cisterns;
• sunflower meal (a by-product of sunflower seed processing);
• cereal products (flour, cereals etc);
• services in reprocessing, storage and processing of grain and oil-bearing crops;
Evrotek’s key product is refined vegetable oil. Sales of Stozhar in Ukraine and Russia are growing and this is a promising market when the quality of food is becoming the main indicator of living standards. For this reason many developed countries consume twice as much vegetable oil as Ukraine or Russia due to the promotion of healthy lifestyles in those countries.
Evrotek is currently focusing on cementing its position in Ukraine. At the same time, we are also interested in foreign markets, especially Russia and the Middle East, where there is a huge market capacity and a growth of traditional demand for sunflower oil. To increase customer and partner confidence, Evrotek has introduced a corporate quality management system that meets the requirements of the international standard of the ISO 9001:2000 quality management system. SGS, an international company, audited Evrotek to verify compliance with these requirements and UKAS Quality Management, a British company, issued the certificates. These certificates cover production of unrefined and refined vegetable oil (including bottled oil); production of sunflower oil, cereals; oil trade; services in processing of grain and oil-bearing crops and the Group’s other operations. Group management is based on the functional structure of the parent company - CJSC Evrotek – as well as the corporate management mechanism and contractual relations regulating cooperation between the parent company and subsidiaries. CJSC Evrotek’s Board of Directors is a united and strong team of highly qualified specialists and experienced executives who have been working for the Group since it was established. An internal computer information system has been created for day-to-day management of corporate information. The system brings together all Evrotek enterprises into a single network. The company’s main business processes have been computerized on the basis of Evrotek's own IT department and the latest software products have been introduced. The Group is financed by JSCB HFB Bank Ukraine, JSCB Raiffeisenbank Ukraine, JSCB Citibank (Ukraine), JSIB UkrSibbank and Bank Aval. In July 2005, CJSC Evrotek placed corporate bonds (the total emission value was UAH 25 million) with JSCB Raiffeisenbank Ukraine acting as the underwriter. Since 2004, Evrotek’s accounts have been kept according to the International Financial Reporting System with the audit reports being made by Price waterhouseCoopers and Baker Tilly International.
In the long term, the Group sees itself as a manufacturing company specializing in Ukraine’s packaged vegetable oil segment.
